ART 2309: Technology in the Arts (Fall 2018)

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of digital technology in the arts. Through lectures, demonstrations, readings & presentations students will learn to examine the history, concepts, methods, & aesthetics of digital art making, & will develop a beginning level of proficiency with computer systems, the peripheral devices, & various media software applications. In this class, students will capture & edit digital images, create computer graphics, & produce digital video through a variety of projects. They will apply creative ideas & technical skills to plan, design, create & evaluate print & time based digital artwork. Students are encouraged to experiment with new ways of using digital technology in conjunction with traditional art making techniques to demonstrate individual artistic creativity. Technical knowledge covered in this course includes using Mac computer system, digital video camera, flat bed scanner, ink jet & Laser printers, & the imaging software Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, & video editing software Adobe Premiere Pro.
