[invited] LHUCA's Celebrating 20 Years of Art

invited to participate in LHUCA's 20 Year Anniversary Exhibition, which opens this First Friday Art Trail, February 3rd, 6pm-9pm

Celebrating 20 Years of Art

In honor of its twentieth anniversary, LHUCA has invited over one hundred artists who have contributed to the history of its campus to contribute a piece of art for this exhibition. The diversity of this collection speaks to the achievement of this space as a catalyst for providing unique visions of art to the Lubbock community.

Key to the success of this organization were the efforts of Louise Hopkins Underwood and Neal Hanslik, who headed a group that researched locations and art centers in the local surroundings.

The origin of the main building begins with its transformation from the City of Lubbock Fire Administration building and Firehouse #1 into a non-profit, multi-disciplinary art center in 2000.

The four main galleries of the center host over 5,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space, and functioned as a beginning to LHUCA's expanding campus.

[work-in-progress] yellow

"There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot, but there are others who, thanks to their art and intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun."

- Pablo Picasso

although I've been thinking an awful lot about blue lately, since I have a collaboration about to start with one of the most talented & amazing artists that I'm grateful to know (more on that soon), I've also started some new prints with the first color being the brightest & applying it by using the vandercook like a really really heavy paintbrush, as #letterpressIsntJustForLetters, & I can't wait to see how this unfolds!

march on & on

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

#LOVE, no matter who you are, let's come together❤ grateful for the hundreds of people that came thru & printed tshirts + protest posters, all the shirt money is going to the local rape crisis & women protective services & the posters were free! #freedomofthepress

I'm speechless with all the love & support & community & more that took place today when it was really needed, here & my loves in DC/Austin/everywhere, & I went to a fancy art fundraiser later that evening with ink still stained on my hands (even after taking a shower) & couldn't be happier bc it goes with the #lbd here in the #lbk!
