11th Annual Medici Circle 5x7 Art Scholarship Fundraiser

donated time as the event photographer & also artwork

Join us on Saturday, January 12, 2019 for the 11th Anniversary Medici Circle 5x7 Art Scholarship Fundraiser - Where the Wild Beasts Art! at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center on the Texas Tech campus.

Known as one of the most raucous parties of the year, this costume (optional) event brings festive art lovers together annually for food, wine, fun and art to support School of Art scholarships.

Each year an art movement or style from the past informs the evening's theme including the décor, the meal, and most especially as the guest costume theme (which is entirely optional).

This year's theme celebrates the wildly fun and colorful art of Fauvism made famous by French artist practitioners – Henri Matisse, Georges Rouault, André Derain and others. They were called "wild beasts" for their vibrant use of color and expressive form. The Fauve's vibrant color has been combined with the wonderfully playful creatures from Maurice Sendak's, Where the Wild Things Are to create this year's theme.

Help-Portrait Lubbock

Very excited to volunteer as a photographer with The AIGA West Texas Future Chapter for Design to participate in Help-Portrait Lubbock this Saturday!

Event Timing: Saturday, December 1, 2018
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Event Address: LHUCA Warehouse, 602 Texas Ave., Lubbock, TX 79401

The goal of Help-Portrait is to find people in need, take their picture, print their picture and then deliver it—free of charge. Help-Portrait is about GIVING the pictures, not taking them. These portraits aren’t for a portfolio, website, or sale. It’s about giving people who otherwise couldn’t afford photography, a chance to capture a moment, a memory…and a whole lot more.

[invited artist / exhibition] Patent Pending: The Art of Invention

  • Contemporary Art Museum Plainview (map)

excited to have been invited to participate in this exhibition, curated by Jon Whitfill! featuring my three “patent pending” artworks made in collaboration with writer Katrina Prow

“This is the 4th edition of Patent Pending, an invitational group exhibition, imagined and organized by accomplished artist Jon Whitfill. The show includes over 50 artists from all across the U.S. along with a few international guests. Each artist was given an original book of U.S. Patents (from 1961-1965) that documented inventions and creative minds during this innovative time. The artists were then asked to make an original piece of art inspired by their particular volume. Most of the artists will be at the opening.”

Terry Allen’s Annual Lubbock Lights Concert

  • Texas Tech SUB's Allen Theatre (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The concert will feature performers Terry Allen*, Bukka and Bale Allen, Jo Harvey Allen*, Richard BowdenDon Caldwell*, Gwen Decker, Terri Hendrix, Suzanne Henley, Curtis McBride, Donnie Maines*, Kenny Maines*, Lloyd Maines* and Alan Shinn.

The event is a retrospective performance of Terry Allen’s 1979 album “Lubbock (On Everything),” a double-record set of classic Allen tunes that were inspired by his hometown. Allen’s album features both thoughtful nostalgia and dry West Texas humor, and has been described by critics as essential listening for anyone with an interest in the outer fringes of country music.
