ART4325: Advanced Photographic Arts / Book Arts

selection of student work, Fall 2015, Texas Tech University

An advanced fine art photography class that investigates the artist's book as a creative structure. Throughout the class, students discuss (both formally & informally) the issues surrounding criticism & analysis of photographs & books. Primary components of the class include: instruction in 4-6 book binding techniques; lectures on historical & contemporary artist's books; guidance in development of conceptually driven artist's books. Students will produce artists books with a focused theme that is fully integrated into the book design, construct books in at least three different styles, critically discuss & analyze contemporary & historical books through a presentation & their sketchbook, & craft an artist statement about their book art practice.
