Texas Tech School of Art & Charles Adams Studio Project Presents
Brad Vetter, Letterpress Artist
LUBBOCK – The Texas Tech University School of Art presents visiting artist Brad Vetter as part of the Texas Tech School of Art Landmark Arts Visiting Artists & Speakers Series. Vetter is a renowned graphic designer and letterpress artist based in Chicago, IL. His lecture will take place on Thursday, April 2nd at 6:30pm in room B-01 of the TTU School of Art Building. During the First Friday Art Trail on April 3rd from 6pm - 9pm Vetter’s work will be exhibited in, B Rad! New directions in Letterpress by Brad Vetter, Victoria Marie Bee and Dirk Fowler, at the CASP 5 & J Gallery. In conjunction at the CASP Helen DeVitt Jones Print Studio, the visiting artist will conduct letterpress demonstrations that night and two letterpress workshops the next day, April 4th. Events are free and open to the public.
Letterpress is a historic relief printing technique first used in the 15th century that has regained popularity among artists and consumers. Vetter has utilized letterpress technique for a number of years creating original works of art and commercial posters for bands such as Arcade Fire and Wilco and international companies such as Nike and Anthropologie. Vetter combines text and image to produce thought provoking and eye-catching works. His vivid color palette, design expertise, and print techniques lend dimensionality to the 2D medium of prints on paper. His work epitomizes a contemporary approach to and perspective on a historic printing technique.
Brad Vetter is a freelance graphic designer and letterpress printer based in Chicago, IL. He previously worked for eight years as designer and printer at renowned print company Hatch Show Print in Nashville, TN. He has participated in panels and hosted workshops throughout the U.S. He exhibits nationally and internationally.
The Texas Tech School of Art building is located at 3010 18th Street (near the corner of 18th St. and Flint Ave.) on the TTU campus. Paid visitor parking is available on the 4th Floor of the Flint Avenue Parking Facility across from the School of Art building Mondays – Fridays. Campus parking is free on weekends. Admission to the School of Art galleries is free.
The 5&J Gallery and Helen DeVitt Jones Print Studio at CASP/LHUCA are located at 1106 5th Street (5th street and Avenue J) in downtown Lubbock. Gallery hours are Friday, April 3rd from 6pm – 9pm, and by appointment.
Exhibition and speaker programs at TTU School of Art are supported by a generous grant from the Helen Jones Foundation. Additional support comes from cultural activities fees administered through the Texas Tech College of Visual & Performing Arts. Additional support also comes through Charles Adams Studio Project (CASP) from a Civic Lubbock Cultural Arts Grant received for Vetter’s artist-in-residency.
