{please RSVP & keep informed about this amazing event, thru the FB event page. &, there will be letterpress broadsides available at the reading! SUPER EXCITED. XO}
Texas Tech Creative Writing and Iron Horse Reading Series is thrilled to be able to host Dallas-based writer Merritt Tierce for two events next week. First, a reading from her debut novel, Love Me Back, will take place at 7:30 pm on Thursday, October 29th in 001, followed by a signing. Original broadsides will also be available for purchase.
Then, the next morning (Friday, October 30th), Ms. Tierce will hold a Q&A and conversation session in room 201 at 11 am. Both events are free and open to the public.
Love Me Back was named a Best Book of the Year by the Chicago Tribune, Electric Literature, and Bookriot, and Tierce is a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 author. In addition to her writing, Tierce is fixture in her advocacy for women's reproductive rights in Texas. If we have had a conversation in the last year about reading or writing, I have likely brought up Tierce's novel and its profound affect on me as a writer. Critics have used words like bold, raw, unfliching, electric, brave, and so on to describe Tierce's work--all the typical words we use when describing honest writing by women. I'll add to this list by simply saying that Tierce's writing is necessary, and we are lucky to have her here on campus.
These events promise to be dynamic and memorable, and I encourage you not only to attend, but to spread the news to your friends, family, and students. Please come, and join me in the fangirl section up front.
